‘Emin’ (mine) manipulates Ikea’s design language to compare our unique personal relationships with mass produced items.

My project focuses on one of a kind, unexpected, uncommon objects you wouldn’t find in an IKEA manual. From a dildo to jewellery, these items aren’t defined by a code, purchased in copious quantities or stored in a warehouse. They are stored with us. They are gifted by special people or bought during a spontaneous visit.

There is beauty in the slow changes of an object as we make it ‘ours’ and use it. There is beauty in how something becomes meaningless to a necessity, a part of our identity.
